Sukto is one of the most favored of recent trending meals on earth. It’s easy, it’s fast, it tastes delicious. It is appreciated by millions daily. Sukto is something that I have loved my whole life. They are fine and they look fantastic.
Shukto is a traditional and popular Bengali dish made during festivals and special occasions like kitty party, potluck, buffet and on a family get-together. We Bongs; treat Shukto as a special dish and we have it on occasion like Marriage, Birthday etc. but as part of Lunch only. It's a Bengali Mixed vegetarian dish comprising of several veggies inclusive of Bitter Guard, Eggplant, Green Banana, Potato, Sweet potato, Drumsticks, White radish and Hyacinth Beans.
To begin with this particular recipe, we must first prepare a few ingredients. You can have sukto using 15 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.
The ingredients needed to make Sukto:
- Take 1 brinjal
- Get 2 drumstick
- Get 3 bitter gourd
- Get 1/2 raw papaya
- Prepare 1 raw banana
- Get 1 small piece pumpkin
- Take as needed lentil dumplings
- Take 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
- Get 2 tbsp mustard seeds
- Prepare 1 tsp poppy seeds
- Make ready 1 tsp five spices
- Make ready 1 red chilli whole
- Make ready 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Get To taste salt and sugar
- Get As needed oil
Bitter gourd is the main ingredient of this dish and the other vegetables in this recipe are pumpkin, plantain, sweet potato, ridge gourd, drumsticks, eggplant and raw papaya. Dried lentil dumplings (badi) is also a important ingredients for making sukto. Shukto recipe- shukto is a popular veg dish of our bengali culinary. Many vegetables are used for making shukto or sukto recipe but bitter gourd is most important among all ingredients.
Steps to make Sukto:
- Prepare a paste of mustard seeds poppy seeds and coconut
- Heat oil and fry lentil dumplings and keep aside
- Now slice the gourd and fry well adding salt and turmeric powder till crisp
- Remove it and fry the brinjals and keep aside
- Now add more oil and temper five spices and red chilli
- Add rest of the chopped vegetables and saute well adding salt and turmeric powder and cover till it is soft
- Add little water and simmer adding the gourd,Brinjal and lentil dumplings
- As the vegetables are soft add mustard poppy coconut paste,mix well
- Add sugar and simmer,it is ready
Basically shukto is a little bitter and sweet taste bengali mixed vegetable curry served with white rice and ghee at the beginning of a traditional bengali lunch. Sukto is a traditional Bengali recipe. It is also popular in Bangladesh. It goes best with steamed rice. Traditionally this is taken at the start of the main meal.
